About Me
I was born in 1491 in Saint-Malo on the northwest port of Brittany. I was and still am a respectable person. I am married to a wonderful woman known as Mary Catherine des Granches, a rich beauty. I’m well recognized in Saint Malo in baptismal registers as a godfather and witness. Jan le Veneur introduced me to King Francis I in 1534, the same year the Duchy of Brittany was united with France in the Edict of Union.
King Francis I commissioned me to explore the eastern coast of North America for France in an attempt to find new territories for France and to find more tradable items.
After three voyages, I relaxed in my estate, I am 65 years old, it is September 1, 1557, and I write this as I lie on my deathbed. I explored the new world for France, and that is my legacy.
